This one really got me noticed with editors at Fleer--was on the X-men '94 set. It established that in your face style I got noticed for.

Oh wow, this takes me back. I still have this card! Great work!! It's really cool to see a larger version of the artwork.

Yeah. I remember this one well, too. It has the stereoscopic/fishbowl type feel to it. Mark Fredrickson was doing something similar but you were among the few that brought that to comics...

Maybe Biz was at one extreme, Fabry was a bit more conservative in terms of playing with depth and you were somewhere in the middle (imo).

yeah tony--i'd agree but i was more influenced by sienkiewicz who is waaay out there. i feel like i am a child of fredrickson kirby bill and glenn. jamie hewlett too but it doesn't show here. biz influenced me for a short time but fabry clued me in to structure and massing.

my wife (then gf) gave me a 19 mm lens for my camera in my early 20's that influenced me the most. ; )

again very perceptive

Okay, I didn't want to respond to this and take up any more of your time-- but I've been thinking about the phrase "structure and massing" and speculating about what it could mean.

Are you referring to the process of using translucent layers of paint to create depth? I remember studying Fabry's stuff and I was sure he was using acrylic medium to give his skin textures the look of flesh stretching over muscle...

nothing technical--just his work has a chunky quality that i intuitively guessed at. not sure if i got it but his work has mass and form... not ethereal like sienkiewicz
